Full Moon Party 2026 to 2027: Dates and the Bangkok Stopover

Full Moon Party 2026 to 2027: Dates and the Bangkok Stopover
Every Full Moon Party date from November 2026 to April 2027, how to get from Bangkok to Haad Rin, how to stay safe on the beach, and what to do in Bangkok before or after.

The Full Moon Party is the beach party everyone has heard of. Once a month, Haad Rin beach on Koh Phangan fills with neon paint, buckets, fire shows and sound systems from the bars along the sand, and it goes until sunrise.
It’s a long way from Bangkok by road, but an easy trip by air. Here are the dates, the routes, and the stuff people wish they’d known.
Full Moon Party dates
Dates are published by Haad Rin’s business association. They usually fall on or near the full moon, but they move when the full moon lands on a Buddhist holiday. Always double check before you book anything.
2026
- Tuesday 24 November 2026
- Thursday 24 December 2026, the Christmas Eve edition
- Thursday 31 December 2026, the New Year countdown party
2027
- Friday 22 January 2027
- Monday 22 February 2027
- Monday 22 March 2027
- Wednesday 21 April 2027
The February and April dates differ between some listings, so treat them as likely, not final. December is the busiest month of the year on the island, and the New Year party is the biggest night of all.
Bangkok to Koh Phangan
There is no airport on Koh Phangan and no bridge, so every route ends on a boat.
Fly to Koh Samui, then ferry
The fastest way. Flights from Bangkok to Samui take around an hour. From Samui, ferries and speedboats cross to Koh Phangan in about half an hour to an hour depending on the boat. Some land right at Haad Rin pier, others at Thong Sala on the other side of the island, which then means a ride across. Samui flights fill up fast around party dates, so book early.
Overnight train and ferry
The budget route. Take the night train south to Surat Thani, get the bus to the pier, then the ferry to Thong Sala. Grab a second-class sleeper. It’s slow (most of a day door to door) but cheap, and you sleep through the long part.
Bus and boat joint ticket
Travel agents around Khao San Road sell combined bus and ferry tickets that leave Bangkok in the evening and reach Koh Phangan the next day. The cheapest option, and the least comfortable.
Stay on Samui
Many people sleep on Koh Samui and take a party boat across for the night. Easier hotels, but you’re on a boat at dawn, which isn’t for everyone.
Where to stay
- Haad Rin: walk to the party and back. Rooms go fast, and many places want a minimum stay of a few nights around party dates.
- Elsewhere on Koh Phangan: quieter beaches and cheaper rooms, with a taxi ride to Haad Rin.
- Koh Samui: the most hotel choice and the easiest flights, but you need a boat both ways on the night.
For December and the New Year party, book as early as you can.
Staying safe on the beach
- Buckets: the famous mix of spirits, mixer and energy drink. Watch it get made, buy from proper bars, and pace yourself.
- Fire shows: enjoy them from a distance. Skip the fire rope skipping, burns are common.
- Shoes: wear them. There is broken glass in the sand.
- Water: don’t swim at night or after drinking.
- Valuables: leave your passport and expensive stuff in your room. Bring a copy of your ID and only the cash you need.
- Getting back: agree a meeting point with your friends before you lose signal. If you’re on a boat home, check it isn’t overloaded and wear the life jacket.
- Help: the medical emergency number in Thailand is 1669.

Your Bangkok stopover
Most trips to Koh Phangan start and end in Bangkok. If your Full Moon falls midweek, the weekend before or after is a good time for a couple of nights in the city, and Bangkok’s club scene is a very different night from the beach.
The house and techno scene is in Silom, close to BTS Sala Daeng and Chong Nonsi. One of the clubs there is ours.

Mustache Bangkok

- Entry

- Getting there
